Have you heard the old song called streets of London? It was several years ago when I first listened to this song, in Sam Hui’s English Album. I liked the music and put it into my favorite play list, so that I could often listen to this song and followed to sing. I didn’t notice the lyric at all then, just thinking it was about something other than love, maybe about some scene the singer saw in the street or some one he knew.

　　As time passed, when I became interested in lyrics of songs in all languages, I knew the lyric of streets of London better. It is about social problem: in a metropolis as rich as London, there are poor people. They, who are ignored by the social, dwell alone at the corner of the city. The song tries to tell the listeners that there are something we don’t notice in day life, and complain that the social is not fair to everyone. It’s surely a good song with the meaningful lyric.
　　But it is, far, more than all mentioned above after tonight, when I heard the song somewhere again and got to learn something suddenly. It is not only a song about social problem, but an encouraging song about attitude of life. The key paragraph of its lyric is not those that describing how unlucky the old man and old girl are, but the repeated one. You shouldn’t be surprised when you read every sentence carefully: Why do you often complain you are lonely? Why can’t you see the hope of life just like you can’t see the sun shines? Why not walk into the city and look at every corner? Maybe you will change your opinion after seeing some guys such as the broken-shoe old man, the clothes-in-rag old lady, and the forgotten hero, or even the beggar, the waif and the disabled.
　　You, and I, are more lucky than whom you see struggling for a poor living in the streets of London, Hong Kong and Canton. Cherish your life today, and care more for people around you---this is what the lyric writer wants to tell you.
